Explore Martigues and its surroundings - on foot, by mountain bike, by car or in a boat!

>> Walks and hikes

  • The the coastal path : a specially prepared path for you to walk along as a family, learning about the cultural and natural heritage of the Côte Bleue, from Les Laurons to the start of Sausset les Pins.
  • The GR 51 (long-distance footpath) : it comes in from Figuerolles, crosses the town centre, and the hills of St Julien and St Pierre and then reaches the Mediterranean. Where it becomes known as the "Sentier des Douaniers" (Customs Officers’ Path).
  • The short-distance paths : in the hills around Figuerolles, or the old tracks to the quarries, military remains, paths around La Gatasse, which you can go along to see the St Blaise archaeological site or the village of St Mitre les Remparts, set high up.

  • To be shared in a friendly fashion with those on foot

>> Cycling tours

  • A cycle track goes from the Martigues town centre to the Côte Bleue.
  • A dense network of local roads which are easy to cycle along spreads out towards the Salon, Aix and Alpilles areas.

>> By car

  • Our Côte Bleue - takes 4hours: visit to the villages and « pearls » of the Côte Bleue, Carro, La Couronne, Sausset les Pins, Carry le Rouet, the rocky inlets of La Redonne, Niolon and Méjean.
  • Oppida and (salt-water) lakes - takes 4hours : visits to the villages of St Mitre les Remparts and Cornillon, set high up on hills, to the mediaeval village of Miramas le Vieux and the cave dwellings of St Chamas via the pretty road known as “the place beyond" (D16).
  • The Surroundings of the Camargue – takes 4hours: You go via the site of the Hauture at Fos sur Mer, the St Louis tower in Port St Louis du Rhône with its 10 kms of fine sandy beach, and the visit to the natural site belonging to the Conservatoire du Littoral, " les Marais du Vigueirat " (an absolute " must "), this tour finishes at St Martin de Crau, the key place for the AOC Foin de Crau wines.

>> By boat

By order of the Prefect, all access to woodlands is forbidden between the 1st July and the 2nd weekend in September when the wind speed exceeds 40km/h.
